Platform for Labour Action has advanced safe and inclusive labour migration efforts in Uganda since 2017. The organization reports empowering more than 20,000 individuals—mostly youth and women—with information about labour rights, trafficking dangers, and secure migration routes.

Through awareness initiatives, legal assistance, and collaborative partnerships, PLA has strengthened migrant worker protections and decreased exploitation levels.

Key Accomplishments

  • 386 migrant workers receiving legal support with 70% case resolution rates
  • 7,475 youth educated across 22 institutions regarding migration hazards
  • 2,484 women trained on employment contracts and safety protocols
  • 102 law enforcement officers trained
  • 189 returnees receiving reintegration assistance with 76% engagement in agribusiness ventures

Roundtable Recommendations

The organization emphasized key recommendations including integrating migration into development planning, supporting movement-building initiatives, and developing institutionalized guidelines for safe migration that uphold international labour standards while promoting gender-responsive frameworks.
